Okay soo i don't know if there's a mod that allows you to just play as the voidling, but there is a mod that allows you to play as any monster, and it's called "monstermash" on thunderstore. install the mod, run the game, then back out and go to the config, then enable special bosses, then the voidling will be playable (as well as every other entity with a health bar in the game)

My friend and I did the mithrix, frog, voidling thing and he didn't get the monsoon skin unlock, so idk. It doesn't count for the purpose of unlocking captain.
